Hippy Strides
Let Your Hips Do the Walking
Do you ever marvel at how you walk? Our body’s engineering is awe-inspiring.
It takes us about a year to take our first steps, even longer to walk, and later, run. Did you know that this unique and complex developmental process centers around the hip joints?
Why Are Hip Joints Important?
Hip joints play a crucial role in essential body functions: standing, walking, sitting down and getting up, squatting, lunging, turning—and so much more!
They were on full display during the Olympics.
The hip joints are nestled deep between the groin, buttocks, and bone on the side of your upper thigh. They are surrounded and moved by your body’s largest and most powerful muscles. Hip joints, together with the pelvis are indeed our power center!
Inspired by Jeremy Krauss’s work and my learning, I’m excited to offer another in-person workshop. The discoveries I made during my JKA studies have informed and enriched my work with clients and my daily walking, exercising, and swimming practice.
I want to share hippy days with you!

“As a professional dancer for many years, we are often expected to perform the most intricate movements. I love Solvents and Glue because it is an opportunity to slow down, listen, and play with the simple, limitless possibilities in the body. The most important element is that it is upright, with gravity, so my muscles kick in, and so it’s immediately applicable in my life. I sense my hypermobility and can choose, through exploration, alternatives that help me feel stronger, taller, efficient, relaxed, and free.”
“…S&G has helped me evaluate the movement in my joints and muscles–where am I stuck, where can I distribute the forces better, what’s unlikely to change, what can I do to compensate. The Feldenkrais approach was essential for me, but the focus on anatomy, physical therapy and all the other disciplines which have been integrated into the lessons is what has made this series extremely useful. It’s been sort of a Feldenkrais-on-steroids experience!…”
