Health Insurance

Can I use my health insurance?

We are a self-pay practice that is out-of-network with all insurance providers. In order to be eligible for reimbursement, you need to have out-of-network physical therapy benefits. You can either call your insurance company directly or send us a copy of your insurance card (front and back) along with your date of birth so we can call them for you..

We have three team members that are licensed physical therapists as well as Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioners®. They each hold a minimum of 20 years of clinical experience and will utilize their Feldenkrais Method® training in the context of a physical therapy session.

Is there a guarantee of coverage through my health insurance provider?

We do our best to help you determine the amount your insurance provider will reimburse you, using the information provided to us. We encourage all our clients to call and verify the information we have compiled. Please download the simple guide called the Insurance Benefit Worksheet to assist you in a call to your insurance provider. The information we provide you is not a guarantee of reimbursement from your insurance provider. Your insurance provider makes a final decision on the amount reimbursed after you submit a claim. We encourage you to submit your claims to your insurance provider as soon as you receive the paid invoice after your session.

Does my health insurance cover a Feldenkrais session?

The Feldenkrais Method (including Functional Integration® lessons and Awareness Through Movement® classes) is currently considered an educational modality and not medical treatment by insurance providers. Feldenkrais sessions, classes, or workshops do not qualify for submission to an insurance provider for reimbursement.

What if I have Medicare?

Unfortunately, you will not be able to utilize your Medicare or secondary insurance benefits at our practice. Medicare or any secondary insurance provider to Medicare do not recognize our business as a provider in their system and consequently will not reimburse you for our service. You have a great option to schedule a private Feldenkrais session with one of our licensed physical therapists at a lower rate of $185 an hour. We also have a team of highly skilled Guild Certified Feldenkrais practitioners who are not physical therapists. The session rates range from $135 – $185 depending on practitioner tier.

Find a spot on the floor where you can lie comfortably. You can use an exercise mat or be on a carpeted floor if needed. You can choose whether or not you want to turn your camera on. If you want to be seen by the teacher, set your device up with enough distance so that your whole body is visible.

Note: If lying on the floor is not an option you can do some lessons lying on a bed. Make sure you make some space by moving the pillows and blankets away. You might also want to consider looking into our Moving Out of Pain class or one of our weekly basics classes.

How do I enter the workshop or class?

After registering for class, a zoom link was sent to the email address in your MindBody account. If you do not receive a link, please check your spam folder and settings, or reach out to office@bettermovement.com

Do I need to watch the screen during the class or workshop?
No. It is important that you hear the instructor. Your attention and movements will be guided verbally, and the teacher will be watching everyone and adjust the instructions to help explore the pattern.
How to benefit the most? Are there any special tips?
  1. DO ONLY WHAT IS EASY: Make each movement easy and comfortable. Do not strain or stretch. Doing only what is easy will facilitate your ability to pay attention to the quality of your movement.

  2. MAKE EACH MOVEMENT SMALL: Small movements, done easily, enable your body to improve most effectively. Large movements, done with effort, reduce your ability to heal and improve

  3. GO SLOWLY: Do each movement slowly. This will give you time to sense and feel what you are doing, so that you can easily detect and reduce unnecessary effort and strain.

  4. PAUSE BETWEEN EACH MOVEMENT: Do not repeat the movements quickly, one after another. Awareness Through Movement is most effective when you pause and relax completely for a moment after each movement, allowing your brain time to absorb new and useful sensory information.

  5. REDUCE UNNECESSARY EFFORT: Small, slow, and easy movements allow you to detect the unnecessary effort in your body. With reduced effort, your movement will automatically improve.

  6. DON’T TRY: Your improvement will be greater and quicker if you do not ‘try to succeed’. When you try, you are more likely to use more effort than necessary.

  7. TAKE RESTS: Fatigue causes unnecessary and inefficient effort in your movement, interfering with your ability to heal and improve. If at any time during a lesson you feel a need to rest, simply pause until you are ready to continue.

  8. AVOID PAIN AND DISCOMFORT: You should never experience discomfort or pain while doing Awareness Through Movement. Only do the small amount that feels comfortable and easy. If you experience pain or discomfort, use even less effort and make each movement even smaller and slower, or try doing the movements in your imagination.

  9. USE YOUR KINESTHETIC IMAGINATION: When you visualize doing a movement, your brain sends essentially the same message to your muscles as when you are actually moving. To use your imagination, close your eyes and imagine doing the movements with ease and with as much kinesthetic detail as you can.

  10. CONTINUE YOUR PROGRESS: By doing Awareness Through Movement often, you will initiate a process of steady improvement. You can also maximize the benefits by periodically recalling the movements of a recent lesson, including your feelings and sensations.
Do you record your workshops or classes?
Yes. We record all our workshops and classes and an audio recording of each will be upload to our library. You can purchase access to the library as a monthly or yearly membership, and watch any past classes you want!
